There are no secondary cats or resonators on a SL65. Just primary cats up front and the AMG mufflers in the back. Nothing but lovely 3 inch tubing from front to back. Others in this forum have reported no HP gain from changing the stock exhaust.

It's aiiiiight.

Best E.T is 11.15, but didn't get it on video, but the time slip is posted on dragtimes. Gonna see if I can dip her into the 10's this fall.

Your 65 should be able to get there with just your tune, good weather, and a set of drag radials. I'm just a measly ole' 600.

Wow, that's good to know! The only diagram of an R230 exhaust system I have been able to find online must be for the 55 cars, because it shows the 2 sets of cats and resonator cans midway between the cats and the rear mufflers. If this baby already has only 1 set of cats and 3" pipe all the way back, I may as well just leave it alone? Although I do wish she was a wee bit louder.

If you are in the US you can sign up for free to startek info. Plenty of pictures and part numbers.

Thanks!

It will certainly pull a greasy string out of a cat's ***, that's for sure.

New SL65 Owner

I too just picked up an almost new 13k miles SL65. Has a 2003 SL55 for many years and couldn't resist the upgrade. Have three more years warranty on the car. had all fluids changed including the brakes and she seems fit. Anything else I should think about at this stage? Also, what in everyone's experience is the biggest issue with these cars? Thanks in advance.

Cat on 65

Doesn't the 65 have a single cat only with everything running through that?

Dealer mentioned that to me......anybody confirm actual set-up....

No, should be 2 beer keg sized cats, one per side, right after the down pipes. Then glorious straight back exhaust all the way to the mufflers. No resonator, no h-pipe, nothing.

I'm pretty sure there is a crossover pipe. EPC shows one. I'll be under my car this weekend to change the oil. I'll take a look.

Update

I know I owe you guys some "after" pics and I am sorry that I am so slow. I will shoot some pics this weekend and post.

Anyway - driving home yesterday, merging on freeway. Not trying to show off or anything, just had several cars and a semi all rolling up on me from behind and the only wide open lane was the far left one. I was holding the car in 3rd at 50mph and goosed it pretty good to get over there and the a** end just let loose and gently waved left to right as I shot what felt like a football field away from the pack. This is probably old hat to all the 600TT and 65 owners here, but this is the first car I have ever owned that would literally light'em up at 50mph. Ungodly. Thank you ///AMG - Thank you KLEEMANN!

Did you have a chance to check to see if 2 cats or 1 main cat that everything flows through?

1 cat on each side, H-pipe behind the transmission. No secondary cats or resonators. Note AMG stamp on the catalytic convertor. I wonder if the SL600 has MB or AMG cats?
