New to this forum SL amg 65?
After 17 years of driving two NSX's, I think I am ready to return to owning an SL I am considering the SL amg 55 or 65? Both sound like exciting cars given the posts I've read. Pros and cons between the two.
I am leaning toward a 2008 amg 65. What's a reasonable price for a clean car?
Thanks in advance for your feedback

search the forum- the differences between the two have been discussed to death

a clean 08 sl65 with 20k miles in excellent shape should retail for $90k

I have not driven an SL65, but I understand the torque is amazing. The differences are numerous but the main one will be based on your own butt-o-meter ratings. The 65 will clearly cost more. It has better spec equipment, the interior is nicer, bigger stock wheels (great ones IMO), slightly heaver in the nose, the ability to accelerate well down low AND at freeway speeds, and rarity. Service costs will be more and you will be more likely to need to go to a delaer. With a 2008 you should still be able to get a warranty and extend it. This will cost more also.
Assuming cash is not the issue, then I really recommend you give both a good, long drive. Some people find the extra HP and torque to be unnecessary in regular driving conditions. Personally, I think too much is never enough, but in reality my 55 is way more than I can leagally use and I have no interest in heading to the drag strip or a race course. For passing some schmuck on a city street or the freeway, my 55 is more than enough. The pricing differential was not worth it for me. Also, due the the relative scarcity of 65s I would have had a hard time comparing them back to back.
Another option you may consider is to get an SL600 with the AMG package (2007-08), and then spend some money at Renntech to have them tune it. You can get the power of the 65 (for the most part) but have more of a sleeper car. The 600 has most all the same doo-dads as the 65. I considered that route, but still went 55 because I liked the exhaust better (stock vs stock).
Good luck whatever you decide.
