Automatic Tire Pressure Measurements Faulty or just out of battery?
Folks;-
I have an issue with the automatic tire pressure control which I have been reading could be an problem with earlier models (mine is a 2003)
When I bought this car in April it come up with a faulty tire pressure control then I put the car in for service and I think (Im not 100% sure) but think I did see measurements at collect but the day after it came up with visit MB workshop and ever since.
I can activate the system while driving but theres no readings anyone have experience with this?
Could it be as simple as the control units in the tires simply are out of battery?
Any help is appreciated since the alarms are driving me nuts

My batteries started failing a few years ago, but I don't remember the fault. It might have been TPMS failure visit workshop. I had the whole system deactivated through SDS. I use a tire pressure gauge. It doesn't have batteries.

This system has a sender in each valve with a life of 6 years max, after this time the batteries will run out and they must be replaced but expensive at £100 each.
I got fed up with mine and false readings and I took it all away in STAR

the batteries should last about 5 to 8 yrs. You can go to a tire shop and they should have a tester to walk around the car and see the strength output of each tpms sensor.

I also have a 2003. The TPMS sensor batteries started failing at around 2008. Mercedes OEM's the sensors from Beru. When I replaced mine (all 4) I noted the part number (right off of the sensor), which is Beru RDE 004, 0532.107.001.
In the USA I ordered 4 sensors from The Tire Rack (tirerack.com) at $75.00 each ($300 for the lot). I was having new tires installed and had the sensors replaced at that time. Once the new ones are in you reset the system from the screen for tire pressure. Do this while driving. The system picks up the new sensors after about 10 - 20 minutes of driving.
What Mercedes charges for this is grotesque.
Make sure you don't have any of the old, removed, sensors left in the car (like in the trunk) or the system gets confused from conflicting signals.
I also have a S550. Went through a similar procedure for it (the S550 uses Siemens sensors).
