SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: CDC on but no sound, CD, AM, FM, nothing

CDC on but no sound, CD, AM, FM, nothing
So I start up the SL and drive a while before I realize I have no tunes. I look down and the CDC is on and is indicating that a cd is playing. I mess with the dial and the volume control on the steering wheel, then toggle the mute button on and off, nothing. I next tried switching to AM, FM CD, nothing. Shut down command and back on again, nothing.
I have the stock Bose system. A search found a bunch of issues with HKs, but nothing on the Bose. I checked and all fuses are good. Any ideas?

Well, I guess I must be on the same drugs Benzo was taking that caused him to hear the ABC pump making noise per his vid.
I just went out to mess with the SL again, started the beast and turned on the CDC. Steely Dan just about blew me out of the car. Good thing the Metallica CD just finished.
I have no idea what is going on. It sounds (no pun) like the dreaded intermittent problem.
