Solution/Tip for SL 65 Grille fastening points
Per previous post a new 2005-2008 SL 65 grille (with distronic decoration) replacement costs $ 1,100 list and difficult to find - 4 in the MB Germany warehouse and none in N. America
3 of the 4 holes on the top of the plastic grille that fastens/holds the grille to the car, that you see when opening the hood and looking down at the grille, were broken/cracked, either by dealer who may have over torqued the bolts from an intercooler repair a few weeks ago or from a recent tap on the bumper...
Body shop did great job of improvising a new fastening system per photo attached (lower left side of photo) and I thought I would share for others in same situation that don't want to spend $ 1,100 on a plastic grille.....
They devised a black steel plate across the top of the cracked holes (the 2 holes at the ends of the grille) and fastened it securely to the car with the bolts......for less than $ 100
