Not sure if this is true, but I recall reading about an MB tech report on removing a stuck CD cartridge. It said to give the side of the unit a swift smack right after pressing the eject cartridge button. I have been doing this for years now with about a 90% success rate.

Maybe if it's an issue of getting a good hold on the cartridge, you could use some really sticky tape on it and while pressing the release button, pull on the tape?
