SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: tire pressure monitoring system - SL65

tire pressure monitoring system - SL65
the car was vibrating for several miles. after determining it was not speed or highway related I pulled over and checked all tires. Turns out the rear tire was very low on air.
I'm surprised the TPMS didn't alert me to the error. The TPMS on my M5 was overly sensitive and would complain if I was 2 lbs different that corresponding wheel.

Garage Temporarily Empty
I know for a fact that the batteries only last for 5-6 years. Then they just conk out. No CEL warnings or anything.
A few may disagree, but I'm certain Tire Rack's TPMS sensors work with almost all Mercedes.....but I am not sure if they only sell the sensors or if you would need to purchase tire in addition....

Mine all started going at 5.5 to 6 years. Fortunately had the extended warranty and all were replaced. SA told me they go for $300 each.
If even one of them goes you get a Message that say that TPMS is inoperative. I never had a problem where all were functioning properly and it failed to detect and alert me to low pressure.
They are not overly sensitive in my experience. I think a PSI 3 pounds or more under will trigger it but not 1 or 2 pounds.

Re: TPMS Adventures
One can verify that TPMS is working via the arrows on the steering wheel to the tire pressure display menu on the cluster. If things are working, you will see a pressure reading for all 4 tires. If one or more sensors are out, you will see a message "pressures will be available in a few minutes (or a few miles)".
Provided TPMS is working, you will only get an error message if a tire falls outside of the programmed safety range. That range is pretty wide on my SL600, not sure what it would be on a 65; check the owners manual to be sure.
When I did my wheel upgrade, I replaced all 4 sensors last Winter at around $80 per sensor at Tire Rack. They carry the OEM Beru replacements for less than anywhere else I could find.
My TPMS was finicky before the new sensors, but have not had any issues since the new sensors over the past year. I realize now that was due to one or more sensors having weak batteries. Replace those sensors if your car is 5 or more years old and TPMS becomes a nice feature to have.
