SL55 AMG - Fitting CLS wheels with offsets front 25 rear 28 - okay to use?
Hi all,
I want a set of the wheels that came on the late spec 2006 onwards SL55's here in the UK, sames as all of these:
Now the standard offset for SL55 wheels in 19" was ET30 Front & ET31 Rear as far as I am aware? If anyone could confirm that would be great.
I am struggling to find a used set or refurbed set of these wheels in the original offsets, only option is brand new from Merc for mega bucks!
I've since found out that the CLS55 had the same wheels, corect? I've managed to track a set of these down:
They are the same size & width but different offsets. These are ET25 Front and ET28 Rear. These will stick out a little more than the stock offsets right?
Will the car still drive straight & true like it does now with the stock offsets or will this mess up the handling as the offsets are different. With the stock wheels, the offset difference between front & back is ET1, on these CLS wheels it will be ET3 difference.
I know they will stick out a tiny bit more but more concerned that the car won't handle correctly? If I'm being stupid let me know
Just don't want to spend close to 1k and find out they don't work on my car! Does anyone else run these CLS wheels? And have you lowered your car, any clearnace issues with the ET25 ET28 offsets?
Cheers all,
Toby

Many thanks :-)
Same goes on this thread, they said the same thing as you:
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-s...el-offset.html
I just thought as there was a 3mm offset difference between front & rear on the CLS wheels and a 1mm offset difference between front & rear on a SL that this would effect the stability of the car as effectively

One of the rear wheels had a hairline crack and the chap that owns them had them professionally repaired by Spit and Polish, re-welded. They hold pressure fine and balance perfectly, should I stay clear or nothing to worry about?
It's always hard to tell the quality of the repair but if holding pressure, balancing perfectly and being round I can't see any issues?
Here is a pic:
Let me know your thoughts

I'm running those same CLS55 rims (only in chrome) on my 2004 SL600 and they work great. My car has been lowered with the star system and I don't have any issues on any height settings. I'm running 285/30/19 in the rear and 255/35/19 up front.
The "lowest" setting is VERY low and it looked like it rubbing would be an issue, so I didn't dare drive on the "lowest setting" ...or I should say I "tried" to avoid driving on the lowest setting. I recently made a mistake and drove home from a local car meet with the car slammed on the lowest setting. I only realized this once I got home, but I didn't have any issues. I still don't know I'd make a habit of driving on the lowest setting, but if you want to do it from time to time and show off...you could probably get away with it. I did.
As far as the repair goes, I'd prefer to buy a set of rims without a repair, but running such large rims means running into issues like this. It looks like a quality repair and as long as the wheel balances, you should be fine.
Cheers

CLS Wheels
+1 CLS offsets will be fine and will look nice.
I'd be concerned about using the cracked/repaired wheel though. It is pretty difficult to crack an OEM rim, that wheel hit something and may be structurally compromised. I'd replace it.
