SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Rear differential whine

Rear differential whine
I apologize but I couldn't find much on this subject by doing a search. I recently purchased a 2009 SL63 with performance pack and about 20,000 miles. I noticed that under light loads at speeds above about 40 mph I can hear a whining noise from what seems to be coming from the rear of the car. I think it is the rear differential but I am not sure. Is this normal? I have had several ZO6's and some of those cars had the same issue. It was considered pretty common an nothing to be concerned with in those cars. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It could be many things. The rear end should be quiet though. Check fluid level, but that is about it. I have never hear of rear edn problems with the r230 LSD and non- LSD cars.
It could be tires too.

Thanks for your input alx.
I don't believe it is tire related. They are newer and the noise occurs only under light load while cruising along the road. I can make it go away by lightly depressing the gas pedal.
Anyone with and SL55, 63 or other AMG with performance pack have this whining?

Get the history report on the car from Mercedes and see what past services the car has had. It may be the backlash (clearance) of the gears causing the whine.
