How to tell if your ECU is OEM or updated ?

Since I purchased my SL65 used I can't be sure someone didn't apply some after marked mods (Kleeman, Euro, Renntech, etc)

Do you guys know if there is a way to tell if an ECU performance mod has been applied without involving the dealer.

ty in advance

don't think the're a way to know just by connecting to the computer.
better ask to the previous owner or owner's..

Without reading out the ECU it'll be tough. You could data log timing on a WOT 3rd gear pull, and look at timing advance. Might be able to take an educated guess.

Either that, or run it down the 1/4 mile and look at trap speed. That'll tell you for sure.

An OBD reader won't show you boost pressure, but it will show you Manifold Absolute Pressure. You should be able take the reading, and minus 14.7. That should give you a rough estimate of boost pressure...

Also, most tuners will open your ECU to read out your current file, whether it be stock or someone else's. If you pull your ecu and inspect it, you might be able to tell if it's been opened or not. There's a rubber seal that needs to cut to crack these bad boys open.

RE: ECU Tune?

With a 600 this would be easier to answer as the a tune will make a huge difference, likely a bit more noticable than a 65.

Some of the tuners could look at your ECU file via a cable and wifi to a pc in your garage, rather than you having to pull the ECU and ship it off, I'd ask Jerry at Euro to see if he can read it.

A shop with original MB diagnistics (we have it here at RamSpeed in Sydney) can tell you.

Otherwise this can also tell

We write our software so that it is invisible to dealers (maintains warranty). Most of the tuners remove the 155 mph limiter. One way to find out is to see if it goes more than 155. if it does, you are tuned. If the fun stops at 155, call me!

I had the same question about my SL65 as Carlsturm. I thought for sure it had been tuned when I was able to go beyond 180MPH on a test drive.....it appeared it was delimited. But when we finally had it on the Dyno it only reached around 505 rwhp on its best run which is what a stock vehicle should run. It approached 180MPH again in 4th and had to ease off because the Dyno was limited to 180MPH before the brake would engage. Are we sure all cars are limited or does MB just have to say they are for liability reasons? Or is there another explaination for this situation?
