So I took my SL55 to get new tires on her. My mechanic said the tires passed inspection but said they were about due for new ones so I just decided to go ahead and get some put on. So I had them ordered and installed last night... but what do you know... the drivers side front was cracked and all four were bent.
So now I need to get some new rims.
I think I will stick with the stock size since that is what is on the door jam and my other car, 1995 3000GT Spyder, when I bought it came with 18" tires when the stock are 17" and I had issues with ride and handling until I put on the stock size and then everything was back to smooth.
Here are the current (shot) rims:

And I was thinking about getting a set of these:

Now I can get a set of these for about $900 with all the hardware.
I would really like some polished aluminum AMG wheels but I am not sure if they exist?
Thoughts and suggestions of course are more then welcome... but remember I already have a nice new set of rubber so would like to stick with stock 18" rims..

I think it all depends on the conditions of the roads that you drive on. I had OEM 19" on mine when I purchased, passenger front and drivers rear both were welded. In my area, sunken manhole covers , pot holes in the road finally took its toll them. I priced new rims at the stealer in S.W. Ontario, to replace all 4 were about $4700 usd. I read on the forums that OEM, high quality aftermarket and cheap knock offs, can all crack and not many can stand the beating of rough roads. I cheaped out and the mrs. got me a set from USA rims for xmas for $900 UDS. I had to check them out. I just installed them and I have a small vibration in the steering wheel at 105km which indicates a front wheel is out of balance a bit. Could be due to the guy balancing them hid the weights behind the spokes. Going to have them rebalanced. They look great and the car was at the stealer the other day and they could not notice the difference between the OEM's. Over all I'm pleased with the ride, but we'll see how they stand up. I couldn't see spending that kind of coin for OEM and crying the blues every time one got damaged. I have changed my driving habits while driving in the city now and pay particular attention in avoiding any manholes or potholes. If a good set of used OEM's come my way for a decent price, for sure I will pick them up as i wish to keep it 100% OEM for re sale.

RE: Wheels
Before you buy a set of wheels, be sure the offsets are correct for your car.
OEM offsets should be 30 front/33 rear. They are clearly visible on the inside of the rims.
If you have interest in good quality aftermarket, I have a complete set of Mandrus Milleniums that came on my 600, with Pirelli Rossos that have been in indoor storage. They rode smooth as glass and look nice. Pic enclosed.

Worth noticing ….
Regarding strength of the rims, then I think it’s worth noticing, that split-rims are much stronger than cast rims ….. it also shows in the price thou

Thanks guys. Yea, I could not pass on the deal... $900 for all four rims, plus new center caps and new lugs and a free spare grill! The new lugs will be nice as my car was missing one on every tire! WTF! My guess was it had locking lug nuts and someone had to pull them off with out the key and drilled them out... but just a guess...
Might pick them up today since the snow was not that bad here in S.E. PA.
I will of course post some pics of them on my SL55 the minute I have them installed.

Now what to do with the old ones????
Thanks! Picked them up today. 2 hour drive to get them but they are like new! Could not find one ding or dent, all four sit flat on the floor so they do not look warped or bent in any way. Not sure what they are coated with but they seem to change color depending on the light that is hitting them. Hope to get them mounted tomorrow and take some pictures.
Oh and yep, he gave me a free grill! Looks just like the one on my SL55.
Not sure what to do with my old rims??? Sell them to the scrap metal place in town? Do you think someone would want them to try and get repaired?
I think I will keep the 3 center caps (one of them is not a real MB cap) as spares....
