Nav.Unit switch 2004 SL 55 to Newer Nav.
I have a 2004 SL55. I want to upgrade my Nav Unit. Has anyone changed out the old unit to a 2009 or newer Nav. I know I have to change out the console panel to a newer one to fit the wider screen, I want to change to carbon fiber anyway. Im pretty sure the unit I have is fiber optic, is there a wiring cable that I might need to make it work? I have seen the units from China, and I do not want fool with them. Any help would be appreciated . thx

Well that being said there are other options, and you will not even have to change your frame to fit a 6.2" screen. I have had it in there for a month
H and love it. check out my install pics here:

you can buy a used 2008-09 unit for about $1300, thats not more then the after market units ? the big question is , what kind of wiring do you need to change over. i have read all kinds of guys spending 4k for after market units installed. i talked to a local shop who is very rep, and he was talking about $550 installed for just an internal Parrot bluetooth!! i'm not so sure we can't do this..

If you switch from an 03-04 unit to an 05+ unit you would also need a new center console cover since the nav unit is wider (03-04 have trim all the way around unit whereas 05+ ends just below nav unit), also I believe the cup holders are different as well. Best bet is to go with the unit Nir linked.

I feel his pain. I'm still new to the Benz world and selling used SL parts is tough. If I had used BMW parts and priced them at 1/2 of retail, they would be gone in 48 hours.
With Benz parts, I've learned to set my price and wait 1-2 months before I can move stuff. Eventually someone will need my item and will want it at 1/2 of list price. ...but it takes a lot longer.

Hmmm...disagree. I have been able to get rid of all of my used SL parts fast and for good money on Ebay. I sold the third brake light for $150 (retail is $165)...taillights for $300-400 total...front license plate holder for $100 (retail is about $125)....windscreen for $500 ($700-800 retail).
Matter of fact, I had grilles from my 2011 750 on there for several months and no one ever bought them.....they are sitting in my closet...so I had the opposite experience with BMW vs. Benz.
