Ok, so I had the car for a week now, and absolutely love it. I am about to change the stereo system, and the possibly work on performance upgrades. One thing that i have been wondering though. Are all of these cars generally noisy when idling? Do the superchargers whine a little at idle? Just seems to not be the quietest running car to me. Runs perfect and smooth, just a little loud to me.
Hopefully, your SC bearings aren't on their way out.

Hi guys
Found this thread searching for all these sounds my engine makes. Car has 90k miles on the clock now, ~30 of which driven by me. I see a lot of videos online from people showing off their engines etc for whatever reason, and some of them have the same noise. It's worst when the engine is cold, and I mostly hear it at startup.
Easily described in this video of the engine starting up today after ~14 days complete standstill, sounds like a cat that's being tortured's meow (sound almost dissapears between 00:05-00:06 in the video), can't believe that's a sounds it's had since it left the factory?
Is this the sound you mean when you're talking about transmission pump sound? Can't be, right? Can't wait to hear you guys takes on this. Thanks in advance.

The oil pump chain also makes noise on these motors,if you ever have your car on the lift running with the plastic covers off you can hear it .

The wine you hear at cold start up is the Oil Pump and will go away once the engine is at operating temperature. My 2006 SLK55 wines like a cat is stuck under the hood and totally sounds like the power steering pump to the unknown..

So would you say this is a sound to live with or is the oil pump broken? I've had no problems (as far as I know) with oil pressure etc.

The initial sound is the secondary air pump in addition to higher rpm on cold startup. The screeching is your supercharger bearing. They tend to go at 90k.
Get in touch with philip@eurocharged.com and buy the smaller supercharger pulley kit with tune. No better time to add a couple hp than when you are out of warranty and **** starts going bad.

Did you steal my car for that clip? That is exactly how my car starts.

Don't stress over it bro.. There are plenty of 55's both S/C and N/A that have this sound with well over 100K miles and not one specific problem has ever been directly related to it. I constantly Red Line my SLK55 Every time I drive it and with it now having 95K miles the sounds has definitely gotten louder at start up compared to when it had 30K miles.

My SL55 was quiet, but when I was looking at one to buy, I looked at a red
one, it had a noisy engine, mixture of low frequency whine and rumble, I
later found out the supercharger was knackered. mind you LOVED that red !

I try and not let all the crazy noises the 55k makes bother me. I do listen carefully for the all to familiar sound of a chattering SC bearing and I also listen carefully for bearing noises from the idlers and all the other pulleys. I have about 90k on my car and just recently installed Shardul's belt wrap kit and 5 piece pulley kit after having an idler bearing failure.
