Adding a larger heat exchanger - Info/tech advice needed re splitting cooling system
Hi all,
This heat exchanger business is really confusing me, am used to air/air conventional intercoolers so need some help please.
I have a eurocharged heat exchanger waiting to go on. I have been advised very kindly by kustom2k1 to split the coolant system up, why is this?
At the moment I run the stock heat exchanger which sits behind the radiator. My mechanic says if you don't split the coolant system up the original heat exchanger will do a better job than the eurocharged one?
How does a charge cooler work, does it use the engine coolant to cool the supercharger? If I fit the eurocharged heat exhanger and do not split the coolant system up is it worthless?
I'll get my head around this soon, my car is not an all out drag car but is also not a daily car so I am happy to take it so far but is it really worth splitting the coolant system, or am I likely to see a massive drop IAT's if I do?
Any help appreciated and sorry for being a noob!

Your mechanic is 100% wrong.
The EC heat exchanger is approx. 2x better.
Your factory system is already split, but adding a rear tank with more fluid will aide in keeping low IATs.
Log your IATs before deciding if you really need an upgrade....

Monky study this post, focus on NikleinR6 posts. Pics show how the system would work with both the factory and after market front mount. Show it to your mechanic so he can get a better idea of what needs to be done.. Good luck..
