Question Taking SL55 to MB dealer for checkup...

I am taking my 2005 SL55 to the MB dealer tomorrow to have it all checked out to make sure everything is up to snuff. Is there anything I should look for or ask them to check/update while there? Like should the comand unit be updated... Etc...??????

I'm less than 5 miles from Masano. You see the silver SL55 they have on consignment? $77,9** for a 2007 with no options. Little crazy...but pretty.

Did you recently purchase it? This stuff does not happen overnight.

Verify if the inspection is correct and then get a couple of estimates for the work.

There is no work around but to perform the repairs. Hope you have a big wallet or an extended warranty.

That is what I was thinking. Plus I think they over exaggerated the oil leak, me and my mechanic had the car up on the lift and while there was some oil on the underside it is not dripping off the car. I park it in the garage in the exact same spot and there has not been one drop on the floor... I would think if it was a "Major Oil Leak" I should have a puddle on the floor. I have plenty of oil puddles in my drive from my girlfriends cars so I have seen "Major Oil Leaks", now BP, they know "Major Oil Leaks".

So I take it these "Strut Ball Joints" that are loose can not be tightened and you have to replace the entire strut thus the $1190.00? Also what is this "Rear Flex Disc" that is separated all about???? They did not say how important it is?

Well – when I got my first SL I did go to MB to have it checked up – I got a list like that and was at that point of the opinion it all had to be done…. and had to be done in a MB workshop …….. right away!!! or the car will fall apart!!!! ……………. ........

..........years have gone by and I have become wiser …. and poorer but when I bought my SL55AMG last year I did go to MB to have it checked …. and yes there were some issues …. but I only let MB fix the ones I knew only MB should fix …. and I didn’t get scare of all the issues they came with …… on paper it looked very important …. but this is just a car ….. made by man ….. and can be fixed by man (like you and me) …. almost …… but many of the issues I did fix myself for very small money …. I do love to work on my own car … but that’s just me …… of curse these cars need service and looking after like every other kind of fine machinery …. and if you “cheat” – it will come back to hunt you))))) … it cost to play with trains …

Aren't the ball joints the ones in control arm? I had those done on my SL500.....I thought you could buy the ball joints and have them pressed in....they were like $70/ea. It was the damn labor that was a killer...they had to take the whole front end apart.....was like $1100 still.

I am not aware of any ball joints in the strut??

Yellow paper above says it is part of the strut.... Not sure why a strut would have a loose ball joint... Perhaps they just make things up to get you to buy new parts....
