Trunk assist problem

Hello guys,I'm new on this forum so please bare with me. 2003 sl55 I'm having the trunk assist problem, when I close my trunk it won't suck and close the trunk all the way. So I have already replaced the latch assembly and the problem is still there. I have pulled the fuse out and it will work again. I am guessing I have an air leak somewhere else but can't seem to find it. After pulling the fuse it will work about 3-5 times before the pse pump turn off on me. Took it to the dealer they said I need to replace the trunk handle also?? Has anyone ever had to replace that part also? Please help if you have solve this problem before. Few question I have is:

1. Will replacing the trunk handle fix the problem

2. If I have a leak somewhere else what's the easiest way to find the leak.

3. Anyone have a DIY write-up on the trunk handle replacement

Thank you!

You leak air. It is usually in the trunk latch assembly. But since you replaced it- it leaks from somewhere else. Your guess is as good as mine.

The pump shutting off is a clear Indication that this particular air circuit is Not holding air/ vacuum.

Yes and i'm having a really hard time finding the leak I can't hear any hissing sound. Do anyone know a proper way to check for air leaks from the pse pump? Thank you

New PSE pump is about $ 850.00......I had same issue and replacing pump and the latch worked for me - I went to dealer on this one......

Don't keep doing the fuse trick as it will damage the pump if it is eventually diagnosed to be okay........do a search on this and there is plenty of information on this site......

Good luck and keep us posted.....

You has your pse pump replaced when it was still working by pulling the fuse? Or you replaced out because pulling the fuse had made your pump stop working. I believe my pump is still
fine, I just need to find the leak which I have no idea how to find the leak.. I'm going to try to replace the trunk opener handle or find leaks towards that area.

Get a harbor freight $5 stethoscope and listen. You will find the leak as they are usually very unique sounding and relatively loud.

ChDan.....apparently I may have caused some damage to my PSE pump by using the fuse trick about 10 times or so.........it got worse each time I used the trick.....pulling the fuse the first time I got about 3 months of operation and by the last trick about 2 trunk openings a day for a week and it would then trip the fuse......PSE pump replaced, even though the original technically kept working but for not as long a period.....
