Jacking up a SL55?
I just ordered the upgraded Bosch IC pump and went out to look under the car to give me an idea of what I'll be doing next weekend. I couldn't make it past looking for a way to lift this beast. lol What's the best way to jack up the SL55? I'm guessing I can put a floor jack under the hard rubber things protruding down underneath the sides of the car. If that's not right, please correct me. After that, it's a crap shoot as to where the best spots would be to put jack stands. With the car's massive weight, I definitely don't want to put the jack stands on the wrong spot. Thanks.

look at the side trim - there are square plastic covers (two on each side - on the front and one on the back) for the trunk jack. right behind them (on the bottom of the car) if you reach by hand (or look) there are round rubber/plastic buttons about 2-3 inches in diameter. those are your floor jacking points.

Sounds like the same area I was talking about, I just incorrectly thought those knobs were hard rubber. Any idea where to put the jack stands without bending areas of the frame? I have 2 low-profile jacks, so I'm guessing I could also just jack the car up from the hard plastic spots and leave them there while I am under the car. I would also put jackstands under the front frame areas (with minimal load) as a backup in case the jacks fail. I would obviously never be under a vehicle supported just by a floor jack.

jacks are put under the big bushings where the lower control arms connect to the body (towards the center of the vehicle). lower _carefully_- dont just drop the car on the jack stands.
in the rear do not put a jackstand under the pumpkin. use the same spots as the fronts (under the lower control arms). again- lower carefully.
on jackstands vs. jacks for safety- you want the opposite for safe operation- never leave pressure on jacks- you want the car "planted" on the jackstands solidly _and_ prop the jacks as a backup (with little to no pressure on them).
the idea is that if a jack fails and the car slams on the jackstand (which you want to use as a backup) it might slide/slip and fall off the jackstand. so you want the other way around- planted on jackstands and use the jacks as backup.
and always put a wheel or two (if you removed them) under the car. it is your life- you cant have too many failsafes.

I have made this jacks-stands myself - I use them for the winter so theres no pressure on the tires - also when doing work on the car they come in handy. Safety first - Steady as a rock

You need new rear rotors I've seen this wear patter more than i care to and it is always bad news...
