SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: buying advice for 2009 sl63

buying advice for 2009 sl63
Hi everybody: I would really appreciate any pertinent advice. I've got my eye on several certified pre-owned 2009 SL63 AMG cars - all in the 10,000 to 20,000 mile range. There are from MB dealers, and each vehicle has been fully inspected & any tires, brakes, tune-ups, etc have been done. I would have the car shipped to me in Southern Oregon, buying it sight unseen.
I drive about 8K per year. This would be my only vehicle. I test drove a C63 coupe recently & fell totally in love with that engine!
Any advice on things to consider?
-buying an extended warranty?
-service/repair/reliability issues to be aware of?
-etc?
I would love to hear from any owners as to their experience with this 2009 SL AMG car (both repair-wise & fun-wise).

An abc equipped car will leave you on the side of the road sooner or later. That is a given.
You need to have a backup car.
Set your expectations correctly and you will enjoy the car

if it comes from a dealer, it needs to have a cpo extended warrantee. if they arent giving that from the start, it is because it needs too many dollars in service and repair to make it pass inspection

buying a used 2009 sl63
the original factory warranty is still in effect, plus the CPO warranty for 12 months would be applied, plus I can buy an extended warranty contract.
So is the ABC technology on this car really troublesome?
I know & expect that any true performance vehicle is going to be more service-intensive. I'm just trying to avoid any real ongoing systemic problems.
thanks for any comments

they are giving you a 1 yr cpo so its all like new quality or with in spec. So its a good car. Plus you can pay for another one or two yrs extension. If you arent a mechanic or dont do anything yourself, Id pay for the max ext.
If you have the cpo warrantee you dont have to worry about anything, so theres no killer deal breaker. The SL is a good car, theres no killer problems outside what the warrantee would cover.Except they will have you paying for normal service maintainence.

Everyone knows how much I love my SL63, so here goes.
Bought March 2009.
Mileage now 14k
Faults absolutely none.
For, stunning looking, gets lots of looks, people think it's an SLR.
Exhaust note, best MB have ever made, again draws crowds.
Superb gearbox, changes like an F1 car.
against because of the nat *** engine mixed with such a quick
gearchange acceleration feels lacking, in fact it's probably
just as fast as things like the SL55 but doesn't have that
turbo feel, probably lacks a bit of torque.
Post more questions if you need more info. yes I know the 55 has a supercharger.

I've got mine up to 44k had the ABC go out on me once under warranty, other then needing standard maint and a quart of oil every couple of months its been flawless. I use my as a daily driver and you should be able too as well, if it breaks on you they pick you and the car up give you a loaner and send you on your way. Do it.

If you think you will keep the car buy as much warranty as you can get. I have had several of these cars all of which were reliable, but when they break they are expensive. They are reliable enough to be your only car but it's a 2 seater. I have a Escalade when I need more people capacity.

I own a 2009 SL63 AMG formula one package. I purchased a 2 yrs extened warranty till 6/2015 & rim & tire plan. The car has 44K miles on it, not any issues to mention. ABC pump replaced, blew-out two tires so far. both replaced free. I highly suggest it is not your only car. But if you only drive 8k miles per year it maybe oka. The C class is lighter. The SL63 is there top of the line sports car. It handles much better than the c63 OR E63 amg. cpo from an MB dealer is fine.. Michelin Pilot sports SP2 are awesome tires, quite, very high quality constructed sidewall and perform wet traction holds nice at 70mph. dry traction extremely well at 168 mph.

thanks for all the good advice! I bought my 2009 SL63 from Nashville Mercedes with 17.5K on it (Brad Snyder handled sales). Included brand new Bridgestone Potenzas plus the B service. I bought two years of extended warranty, so my total including CPO warranty plus 6 months of existing factory warranty comes to 3 1/2 years. I paid $82,500. It's black on black. Dang, listening to that Valhalla V8 6.2 liter with the top down is totally worth the price of admission. I told my woman of 40 years that she may now consider herself a "trophy wife" when we go out on the town. Nice car!

Here's a picture taken in early November. I live in Southern Oregon, and it seems the day I took delivery the clouds parted, birds sang, and the automotive gods smiled upon me.
