Wow....ABC/PS pump gone for the second time in 7 months
Not happy, at all.
I had the ABC pump done in April....$2,300....and this was for a rebuilt one with a 1-year warranty.
I started getting an occasional ABC error a few weeks ago and figured this stupid thing was on the way out again. However, the last 3 weeks the warning didn't come on, at all. I thought maybe I dodged a bullet.
Today all of a sudden...I start hearing a power steering whine when turning the wheel. Sure enough...about half an hour later, I notice the power steering is now off and there is pentosin all over the ground.
I'm tired of this car....it's been one thing after another. I bought it in July 2011 with 42k 1-owner miles on it. Granted, I've put 42k on it since then.....but the ABC problems are a joke.
Now I have to get the car to my indy....I assume it's probably not safe to drive with the PS out? I can barely turn the wheel.

Is it weird for the car to still raise if I hit the ABC button? There also are no warning lights on in the car......
If the pump went....wouldn't there be some sort of error or wouldn't there not be enough fluid to lift the car and lower it?
I guess it's maybe possible not all the fluid leaked out....?

Yeah, very odd....did not drive the car today nor am I going to attempt to....but the car still raise/lowered on command, still no warning lights....but the fluid level is definitely low and the steering isn't working.

The ABC/PS pump seems to have a design that is, although the two are joined in one pump, completely separated. So if one circuit fails the other stays in working order.
So the pump may have failed on the PS side, but that is not likely since the pump is fairly new.but it's definitely something on the PS side that's broken and must be fixed. I wouldn't drive it as you may cause more damage on the way.
I had my S55's ABC pump blow once while driving. PS never went out.
The ABC system is definitely flawed. Yet it has some neat features.
