Selling my 2005 SL65 AMG

Is it strange I'm feeling seller's remorse even listing the car for sale?

I know this section attracts more who are looking for the more rare SL55/SL65 AMG models. Thought I'd let you guys know I'm (regretfully) putting the car up for sale...

Here's the info. I appreciate all of your guys help and inspiration along the way (AMGfan, Marcus Frost, Kamil, Thericker, NikleinR6, etc.)

https://mbworld.org/forums/mercedes-...ions-mods.html

Any advice on the sale appreciated

Anyone had luck with Autotrader, Ebay, or other websites to recommend?

Your car is beautiful. Good luck with sale.

Might be easier to part with your car in winter but perhaps harder to sell in winter? (Even if you don't live in the snow belt - potential buyers do)

Autotrader is my favorite.

I agree with summer being the more optimal time to sell, but I did want to pass along the extended warranty to the new buyer (with maximum length of coverage still available, especially given the caution that buyers approach a "lemon" car - even though in the case of my car the lemon return was 7 years ago).

I'll likely list up on autotrader next if the forums are not initially successful.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you, I appreciate that. It's a short list of cars you can obtain with 600+HP/800+TQ, hardtop 'vert, with total luxury for under 50k!!

The car is 10k less than average/good pricing by KBB/NADA book values, which should certainly account for a 2006 lemon return (esp with the extended warranty in place)!

How frustrating! Buyer just backed out after significant time investment (on both our ends). Flights to Houston, third party inspection, etc. - couldn't obtain financing...

Back on the market!

......sorry about the frustration you experienced. This is something I've been trying to communicate unsuccessfully to my friends selling their cars. Once a car is more than 6 years old, there are not that many financial institutions that will finance it. The few that do have very stringent criteria. So many successful sales are actually to cash buyers, not to buyers that will have to finance the purchase. Most sellers don't understand the huge difference when someone says "I'm a cash buyer." They still price the car the same as they would for a buyer need g to get a loan. Big mistake. Once you have made that final decision to sell the car. If you find a cash buyer, it is golden. Do what you have to do and get the car sold, otherwise you will waste endless time listening to sob stories about lack of financing

be advised that most traditional financing will not work on a 2005 car as it is too old. banks, credit unions etc simply do not have such programs.

and those that do are very conservative and will lend less.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Again,

ALX and I agree. Financing is just tough in a situation like this, and no matter what you might think or say, 80+% of cars in American have a lienholder. I think this is part of what has precipitated the fall of early R230's and 211 E55's. Unfortunately the sellers just don't realize it.I have to shake my head when so many of these people offer their cars at prices that are so out of touch with reality (lots of them here). Also, I have some lenders that now want to see a Carfax report before they'll sign a customer up, and a Lemon flag will kill it with them too.
Great looking SL, wish it was mine. I've said it numerous times on this forum and I'll say it again....it's just harder to sell a used performance car than you thnk. And the world is now a different place, making it even harder. Good luck in your quest. If some people pay me the money they owe me, I'll come get that thing...

Several months ago I wholesaled my 05' SL65 (55,000 miles, black, no warranty) to CNC Motors in Ontario CA for $42,000. I received the payment within 48 hours of them picking up the car (at their expense)...it couldn't have been easier. They loved the car, and were able to sell it in less than one month. You might consider this selling option considering that the price I received is very close to your asking price. On a side note, I purchased a 2011 SL63, and couldn't be happier. Good luck with the sale!

........if you you are just trying to get a feel for the market and not sure you want to sell, then no worries. Once you make the final decision to actually sell the car, then go with cash buyer or wholesale. A few times I have come close to buying a 65, but when I tell the seller I am a cash buyer, they don't undestand the meaning. Came close to picking up a CL65 not too long ago. Told the seller I am a cash buyer, but he went on about the price of the mods and blue book and NADA etc. Didn't realize the opportunity to sell. I just walked away.

Appreciate all the input and kind words.

Certainly is a specialty car with a smaller market.

I am able to help a new buyer obtain financing though the institution I have the small remaining lein with (PenFed). They offered me (and still would offer) 1.49% for 60 months on this exact car...so she's ready to move to anyone qualified!

I would have already taken this off your hands if I could unload my SL55. Bump for a clean car.
