Looking closely at the new SL you realise how flat and stubby the nose has
become, and then you realise that most manufacturers are doing the same.
Even Porsche GT3 has a bigger flat nose, and Jaguar.
What happened to the sleek noses

You have to thank the European Pedestrian safety laws for that. Since it requires that pedestrians can survive at collision with a car at up to 40kmp/h (around 25mph), car manufacturers had to do quite a bit of physical and material design work to make that happen.

I think the did so beautifully on the SLS front end, a bit less so on the new SL.
