SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL55 wheel & tyre sizes
Greetings from Australia.
I know this question comes up all the time and I apologise in adavance for asking it again!
I've searched and found answers but just want confirmation of my findings.
2004 SL55 (Model year 2005) currently with the standard AMG turbine spoke wheels F 255/40/18 and R 285/35/18.
I'm in the process of buying the following AMG wheels F 19x8.5 ET25 (A203 400 0102) and R 19x10.0 ET28 (A230 400 0202) and want some advice on the best size tyres to fit.
For the fronts I'm thinking 255/35/19 which looks like it's pretty standard.
For the backs I'd like to go a bit wider if possible.
I'm sure 285/30/19 will work but what about 295/30/19 or 305/30/19?
Will 285 tyres look wider on a 10" rim rather than a 9.5" rim (I doubt it)?
Are 295 or 305 tyres too wide to fit on a 10" rim? I'm sure it's probably not recomended but is anybody out there doing it in reality without problems?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Your 19x10" rims with a 28mm positive offset will move the rim's center line a bit less than 1/8" toward the inside of the wheel well. Add 1/4" for the wider wheel and a bit less than 3/8" for the additional width of the tire, and you'd need a bit less than 3/4" clearance toward the inside of the wheel well - a bit less than that toward the outside. That should give you a rough idea as to whether the wider rims and tires will fit without rubbing. Don't forget to add a little fudge factor for wheel travel.
