BUYING SL55 - ADVICE NEEDED
So... I had a huge post written out and my laptop died ![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
Anyways, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking at buying an SL55. I found one I like for around $32K. black on black 2004 with 49k miles. Seems like a good price from a dealership. The only thing that's missing is a warranty. I did some research on the forum but all the warrantys I found were pretty old.
Does anyone know any companies that are still offering warranties for the SL55? I'm looking for 2-3 yrs around 20-30K miles. I won't be driving the car that much maybe 400-500 miles per month. Willing to spend around 2-3K.
Any advice is appreciated

is the car at a mercedes dealer? they should be able to cpo warranty it. if they wont, it tells you it needs alot of work to make it right. Good one to stay away from. As for aftermkt warrantees, for the cost they arent worth it. Shop around and find out.
Before you buy a car, take it to a mercedes dealer and have them do a complete cpo inspection, that will tell you what the car needs

any dealer should be willing to take it to a local mercedes dealer and let them inspect it, if they want to make the sale.
you set it up with the dealer and tell them what you want, and pay for it, about $250
these are expensive cars to maintain, everybody knows that, so you need to be sure of what you are buying

You cannot certify a 2004.
Car must be under 5 years old, under 75k.
I agree that you should spend the money and have MB take a look at it. Take it there and have them do an MPI. I can also pull a VMI for you and tell you its history.

Man I am looking for one as well... I drove an e55 from 50k to 105k it had its fair share of problems but its an awesome engine and that no lag power is hard to get anywhere else with the comfort of the benz... I think the following two generations are just fckin weird looking. I wanna get rid of the E because I dont need the 4 doors ... I want a coupe ... hard top convert and I cant go to a ride without the same power I get now... therefore its the only option out there. So the Sl55 is great if your gonna pamper it and keep it for a long time... its gonna cost you but its worth it... plus brand new is like 140k...

RE: AFTERMARKET WARRANTY
Hi There.
I did quite a bit of research on SL55 AND SL65 before settling on 2005 SL65. It sounds like the $32k for the car is spot on, presuming that it is a car that is in top shape. DO NOT BUY WITHOUT PPI. I learned the hard way with a $40k+ blown Porsche engine last year. But I digress.
RE: Warranty. I would HIGHLY recommend the Chrysler/MOPAR 5 YR/50,000 PRE-OWNED MAX CAR WARRANTY....if the price is reasonable.
The SL65 I just purchased is getting the finishing touches on several repairs:
1. New/Refurbished COMAND CENTER.....There were some pixels out....but fully covered ($5,400 plus labor)
2. Driver's side door air lock ($675 + labor)
3. Convertible hard top: a. leaking cylinder

b. pump (~$1900 + labor)
Bottom line: over $10,000 worth of repairs and I pay $100 deductible. The warranty covers essentially everything but oil filters, brake pads, and gasoline![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
All cars newer than 1997 and with <125,000 miles are eligible. It's worth considering.

I'd be interested to see what the price on a new Chrysler warranty is for a 2004-2005 SL55/65. I know NAC won't transfer warranties on AMG / M cars anymore.

WARRANTY ISSUES
I'm not familiar with NAC. Is this a particular warranty company. I know that for the Chystler warranty, they permit ONE TIME transfer to new owner. In my case, the warranty was transferred from previous owner to me.
I'm going to look into extending my warranty, so I will keep others posted when I get info. I suspect that they are going to tell to go jump in a lake after they just ate a $10k+ bill on my car.
