WHAT TO BUY SL55 "08 or SL63 "09
Which ever one I will keep for a long time.
I have ml63, love the look, not crazy about the engine ... test drove the sl63 it feels slow and the gear changes are weird and not properly timed.
Love my e55 just doesnt feel sporty enough and dont enjoy reparing it anymore + I dont need the 4 seats already have another 4 door. I want a top down
I love the 55k engine... I just feel that in 2013.. maybe its a bit outdated and the repairs will be expensive... wont find anymore warranty at this point.
I will be able to swap certain parts which is cool for the 55k. I just hope it lasts long enough before breaking down.
My e55 has 105K but it had its fair share of repairs... ever the abc but alot of other random **** like a 1500$ gas tank etc...

Sounds like you want to spend $50-$70k on an SL
I'd either:
Get an 07 or 08 SL55 with 40-50k miles and spend some money adding pulley, tune, headers, throttle body, heat exchanger, Johnson pump
or
Get an 05 or 06 SL65 with 40-50k miles and add an ECU/TCU tune + heat exchanger and Johnson pump.
or
Get an 05-07 SL600 with 40-50k miles and add ECU/TCU tune, heat exchanger, and Johnson pump.
All of the above mentioned cars should cost no more then $50,000.00. You may even be able to find one for the low $40's.
If you buy a 2006 or newer with less then 60k, you can probably find a warranty.
The supercharged 55k engine and twin turbo V12 engines are so much more fun then the 63 engine.
The only drawback is not having the slightly updated interior and face lifted exterior. If this really bothers you, look at 2009 SL600's. They are headed into the steepest part of their depreciation curve and their value is dropping like a rock now that they are coming off warranty and lease (2013 minus 2009 = 4 years. 4 years = warranty coverage. 3-4 years = typical lease terms)
