SL-55 AMG Steering Rack Issues
I wanted to know if anyone ont he forum had encountered a problem with their Steering Racks, especially on a low mileage car. My car currently has 29k miles and there is a loud popping noise coming from the rack when the car is under load. I am thinking it could be either the internal valves, or possibly the elbow inside the boots have become stressed. I would appreciate any insight on this issue the forum could give me.

is it the rack or the steering column popping?
some popping from the steering column is common and imo- harmless.
popping from the steering rack is usually the rack being under stress and binding due to worn bushings in the front suspension.
faulty r230 racks are not common

the noise is definitely coming from the Rack and not the column. the lower control arm bushings were just replaced a few months ago and the ball joints look good. the car is at the shop now, and hopefully I will know something today or Monday.
