The official facelift headlight knowledge database thread!

Alright guys, my car is 95% done with the facelift and pretty much the only thing left is the headlight wiring. Just wanted to get the feedback on people with facelift conversions, being it through the widebody route or just stock SL550/63 facelift. How did you guys go about tackling the harness conversion? I know some people opted for the kabeldaviko kit and others swapping pins etc.. Any of you successfully integrated the auto-leveling feature?

Let's hear it!

i don't have auto leveling before the face lift, so I believe I just won't have that after facelift.... I can take super detail picture of how the wiring go, you want me to?

That's dead sexy. Is that OEM sheetmetal, or is there aftermarket? What's the total bill on this? I've had the car 2 weeks and that looks mint!!!!

So it turns out Juha's (Ekselent) wiring diagram was right the whole time. My settings on the OBD were set to the low beam always on, and had to switch that to manual. Everything now works, just gotta figure out the auto leveling.

the problem is trying to find the connectors only. i couldn't find them. had to buy the harness from that daveco or whatever it was. you still need to pull pins and swap into it though.

My question to you guys, by saying auto leveling, are you referring to When you turn your steering wheel your low beam turns as well like a real sl63? Because I don't think our sl55 can do that

What do you mean by finding the connectors only? I pulled out all the pins from my old plug and and seated them into the new plug and according to Juhas diagram the headlight works perfect. I just gotta find out where the two wires that control the auto leveling plug sit in.

does anyone have a complete parts list necessary to do the conversion? I'm just wanting to figure out how much it would cost to upgrade a 2007 SL55 to 2009 SL63 style... So far I've only located a hood, headlights and a front bumper on eBay... I'm sure there's a ton of other parts needed

I've seen many posts discussing the facelift but, never seen anyone answer

1) where people buy the parts (are they OE Mercedes parts or other?) and
2) how much the facelift cost

Cost from a reputable Web based company www.sarona.com

Sl63 front end
-About 4-5k (non widebody)
-headlights from eBay w/o ballasts 2k

-Paint / very little bodywork
A good body shop should be able to paint match with doors as to blend to your oem factory paint 4-6k

electric for headlights. ...tough one
As this is only tricky part. A super tech from local mb may be needed so allow about 1 to 2k for just that...not Including parts. A shop that has done the conversion will usually include that for a fraction of that price.

2-3 weeks of down time

Now a full blown black series body kit ..double everything and expect 2-3 months of downtime. And don't forget about new tires and rims...yupp. spacers not recommended if your got more than. 300hp under the hood...I.e non-amg

That's about it.

Oem mb headlight about 2500 each.

Aftermarket (AL, Hella) mostly European about 2k for pair depending on what additional features you need for lighting

Gents..good afternoon.

Phase 1 complete of 2006 SL65 face lift

Just bought the 09+ headlights and also all the parts for the 2009+ sl63/65 face lift conversion, went with the actual BS fully functional vented hood for release of hot air.

Reason I chose the BS hood was because when I decide to do the full WD conversion, I will not need to replace hood. Plus I like the added engine temp drop idea. Houston gets hot.

Phase 2 begins soon.

Gathering all supplies for headlight conversion, ignitors, ecu..brackets etc , omar from this forum, tremendous help; will offer support and I will post here as others may need it.
He recently completed his sl55 upgrade.

Just waiting on my parts arriving to body shop, and then teardown will begin. I am gathering as much Info

*sorry.

Gathering as much info as I can. Found an excellent auto body that will provide electrical; body fitment an paint match from doors forward at a reasonable rate.

Next post will show the pieces and the Black Series hood. That hood is a must I feel for the w275 engine as the heat it generates. Talked to Marcin today about the scorpion intakes and exchanger but the heat soak issue was my concern. Once I get face lift done; I really think that I will consider the scorpions quad filters. Also I am doing the ABC fluid flush and Tranny flush as I am at 70k miles on a 2006. MB tell me not to worry; but they won't be paying a 3500+ bill if pump fails. From what Marcin was saying; the pressure and the heat generated by the pumps reaches past 450-500*; even though the cooler does cool it down. It a great reassuring factor to have a 300$ service down to be able to reach my goal of at least 150k miles on my car

This might be a noob question, but do I need to get specific facelifted headlights to work with an older 2003 R230? E.g. xenon, bi-xenon, or do all the headlights work?

I think if you have low and high beams, as I am sure you do. You need bi-xenons.

I don't think they make a xenon (low), halogen (hi) combo for face lift 09+.

I am pretty sure you would be OK with a bi-xenon because ballast have to change and that is what supplies the hot arc
