SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Sl55 vs SL65

Were the interior leather options different on the 65 vs 55? Reason I ask is that I just looked at an '05 SL65 today that had Black leather throughout and I was under the impression that Black was not available in an SL until '07. Every '05 car I've seen has been Charcoal. It also had a diamond pattern texture in the leather along the bottom inch or so of the dash that ran along the top side of the console. Also ran in to the doors around the seat adjustment switches. Is this normal for a 65 or could it have been a special order item? Was very cool looking!

My car has what is called the Charcoal "Nappa" leather. Claims to be a "factory option". Looks to be a $3800 option? Not sure if this is what is in ALL 65's. Maybe that is what you are referring to? Maybe other SL65 owners can chime in?

65 v 55? Both are great cars. I have had my '03 since new and it has been bullet proof and relatively cheap to maintain. We have allot of 65 customers that have less than stellar reliability and much higher maintenance costs.

They have better lightweight rotors than OEM and are cheaper in some cases than OEM? The rears have massive weight reduction too. Running 2 piece RacingBrake rotors on my ML63 (first set ever developed). Honestly the best brake upgrade I have ever done. And the handling/ride quality characteristics have completely transformed the car.
Don't replace with stock OEM, UPGRADE!

Current-2011 E550 4MATIC, 2007 SL55, past 2013 C300 4MATIC, 2005 CTSV, 2004 Audi TT, 1998 Volvo S70
I love my 2011 E550 but have found myself in the market for a weekend driver. I have done some research and have narrowed it down to 2007 SL AMG's either the SL55 or SL65 in the 30-40K range. There are some great buys out there right now and I can get a really nice white or black SL55 with 45-80K miles for 30-35K. There are a few SL65's out there under $45k but they are more like 80K+ miles. I am all about no regrets, I have test driven the SL55 and loved it, but it was a 2005 and needed some work, but it got me hooked. I just dont want to get a year into it and wish that I got the SL65 instead.
The SL55 is more power than I will ever need, and this car will really be an extra fair weather driver that my 25 year old daughter may get the chance to drive every once in a while. Any advice would be welcomed I am getting one soon no one can talk me out of that, once I get a car into my head I have to buy it and ready for this one yesterday
