FOR SALE: SL55 Spare Tire Complete Kit
For anyone ever thinking of converting there Green bottle of goo (that would ruin your rim and tire, not to mention TPMS sensor if so equipped)to an actual spare tire, I am parting with my Spare tire kit. I purchased all necessary parts from my MB dealer the proper VREDESTEIN 175/55-18. This is the only spare wheel that would fit an SL55.
It is great peace of mind. I am currently between SLs and no longer have a need. If you have ever been interested, I am sure you know what this kit is worth.
If you are interested, throw me a PM.
This complete kit is still available,
Thanks for reading

I purchased a 'new' one from a wrecking yard shortly after I bought my SL55. I hate 'slime' for tires, so would not use that - would call AAA first (and they would not know how to service the car!). The spare was OE in SL500's, so there are a fair number of the tires already available on eBay, etc. However, I have never seen a complete kit for sale.
surely you'll find someone who wants it. I'd hate to be more than 10 miles from home and have a flat without having a spare! My 928 GTS has a similar spare (I've had 6 928's), and DID have a flat about 60 miles from home about 10 years ago on one of them. SO glad I had a spare tire to use.
Good luck with the sale.

The SL500 Spare was 17 inch and will not fit over the SL55 Front Calipers...
The early spare tires supplied to the SL500 were 17 inch and they will NOT work/fit over with the SL55 large calipers...
Even worse for the guys with the SL65 or a SL55 with the 030 performance package... Those cars have 19 inch wheels and even larger front rotors (390mm) and huge calipers that the 18 inch spare will NOT work with!! Been there tried that!
Believe it or not there was actually a very rare 19 inch collapsible spare offered for the SL65s...

SL55 Spare tire Kit
Correct,
Only the 18 inch spare will fit the SL55. This spare size is the 175/55-18. It is being sold with everything you need to convert your SL55 into a spare tire equipped SL. It took a while to hunt down all the parts and tool caddy. The 18" tire and wheel is very tough to find now.

I got the 19 " 65 spare from a parts house in the Netherlands for about $ 300 in 2009......got lucky as he was shipping parts to the US......you do need to clear the brakes or no go.......it does give piece of mind even though it cuts truck space dramatically as the 19 does not sit flat unless you customize the trunk..........used it once about 30 miles from home in the middle of nowhere.........

for the 65/55 P30 its the same wheel- tire spare, the wheel part # stamped on the wheel is 230 401 1902, the ET is 25 (this is the only wheel/tire spare for the 55/65) Its the 175/55/18 tire.
but the 65 has a big (50mm) I cant remember exactly the size, spacer bolted to it. So if you make it yourself, youll have to test it and come up with a spacer combo, and make it yourself

The 18" spare is available at a UK cost of £450. Adding on the cost of the other bits required for the conversion brings the cost to £490 which to be honest is cheaper than I was expecting. Some parts have to come from Germany so the lead time is 4-5 working days. Given the current exchange rate that is a dollar price of $765. A 19" spare, complete with all of the other fixings, in new condition, sold for £83 on Sunday evening (ebay) I nearly bought this myself but the seller said that the OD of the wheel was 595mm and I just could not see how that was going to fit between the battery and the air pump. Looks like being the dealer option for me.

SL55 Spare Tire Complete Kit
This kit is an 18 inch spare that does fit between the consumables battery and the top hydraulics perfectly. VREDESTEIN 175/55-18 to be exact. All of the bits and spare are Dealer New as you can see in the picture. But it is only an 18" spare and will fit the SL55 AMG only. I read you will have fitment issues with the SL63, SL65 AMGs. This would be great insurance for anyone running an SL55 without a spare.
