Mobridge Unit Install Guide and Review for R230
Installed a used Mobridge unit I bought off the forum's yesterday, had to remove the rocker panels, the leather panels behind the seats, the panels off the two compartment boxes where the fuses and the CD Changer is as well as the center panel behind the center console (did it to wire the bluetooth mic in the ashtray, aux and ipod cable in the center console.)
Removed the CD Changer once the panels came off, and swapped it with the Mobridge unit. So just quick overview what happened.
The fiber optic cable (Orange Cables) switched the CD Changer cables to the Mobridge unit and didn't have to use the extension cables that were provided.
For the power there is 2 wires where you will need to strip and connect
Car Wires to Mobridge Wires
Orange <-> Red (Power)
Brown <-> Black (Ground)
Then you will see a Blue wire from both the Car and the Mobridge unit, but you don't connect these, leave them alone
Finally make sure while wiring you don't have the wrong wires touching or you can blow a fuse for the Command Unit (This happened to me) and command will not turn on
If this does happen for R230's its Fuse F-77 located in the compartment box behind the passenger seat.
Once you have it hooked up test the command unit before putting the panels back.
If you did this correctly you will have the following options
Telephone option is now enabled if you didn't have it before and can use all the functions for your phone that command will allow you to use.
On Audio select CDC. CD Changer is now replaced with Mobridge Menu when you select it with the following:
CD 1.Playlist
CD 2.Artist
CD 3.Album
CD 4.All Songs
CD 5.Composer/Genre
CD 6.Media/Aux
1-5 is for your Ipod, 6 will give you an option to either use the Aux cable or Stream via Bluetooth
After that just put the panels back on.
As for a review I'm already loving this, still gotta figure out a few more things but got most of it down. With my Bluetooth Mic hidden in the ashtray wired hidden through the center console its discreet and people can hear me fine with the mic. It's also nice to answer and pick up calls now on my steering wheel, access my address book and even check texts.
Ipod charges while its connect to the car and sound quality is amazing even compared to the Ipod connection in standard MB (I have that in my 2007 E320 Bluetec and my 2012 S550 4 Matic I just picked up today and Mobridge is much better)
Is it worth the 900 Bucks? It's great but maybe a little steep, prob would buy a performance part over that. I see a lot on sale for 700 now though and I'd prob be willing to drop that much for the unit, or just keep an eye out on the Classified section of the forums and get a amazing deal if you can.
Hopefully this will help give insight to install one of these units (It was a pain with no much installation info online) as well as how the product works.
Took 3 1/2 - 4 hrs since there wasn't any info on install, but if I had to do it again knowing what I know, I can prob do it in 1 1/2 - 2 hrs

Nice write-up. Been thinking about getting this or the Denison
Functionality on the Mobridge looks great.

I was thinking about Dension but I know Mobridge works for sure, only thing Mobridge doesn't have that Dension has is USB charger, but I'll just plug it into my ash tray if I need it, for the price I picked up my unit on the fourms it was cheaper then a new Dension unit so I'm okay with it, though I would like to see someone post a review on that unit.
All I found was a guy with a W220 with the phone function not working on youtube

It's a way to have Ipod Integration, Aux, and Bluetooth in your car.
2003-2004 R230's have AUX already but 2005-2008 were left with MP3 CD/DVD option instead
If your phone is disabled in your car cause you don't have the phone harness, this unit will enable your command unit to use all the functions that you can use in command such as, dialing numbers on the command number pad, sync address book to command, see phone log on command unit, allow you to answer or decline phone calls, either via command or steering wheel and etc.
You can also stream music or any audio from your phone to the command unit
With the Ipod you can select your playlists, artists, albums, songs, composers, and genres
Or you can use the AUX feature if you had an R230 that didn't have it.

Does it charge iphone/ipod? In the first post you said it does then in a later post you said that the mobridge unit didn't. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. Also is there any way you to use the factory mic instead of the supplied one that came with the unit?

Yes it will charge your Iphone/Ipod but there is no plug for anything that uses USB. However I think the Dension unit does have a Ipod/Iphone and a plug to charge your USB devices but I didnt' want to take a chance on Dension I know they had to update the firmware a few times to get the bluetooth to work
