Tyre size
Can anyone advise me what size tyres to put on some 20 inch rims on a
SL65 2004. They are 9 inch front and 10.5 rear inches.
He said 305 on the rear, but with 12mm spacers.
Perhaps someone can help.

Yes, off set is important, plus other factors, such as whether it has a lowering kit, fenders rolled or not, how you like it to appear, how you like it to ride, selection of tire brands (some can be pretty limited dependign on your choice). When I switched to my 21" on my SL65, I did used a website tire calculator to compare size of what I had on the car, to what I was thinking of going to and once that was known, you then know how the car may sit (such as 1" higher in the rear than the current ride, lower in the front, etc). But since you have 20", below is what my tire size looks like on my SL600 with 20" and 255/30/20 front and 285/30/20 rear. I have lowering kit, and on the lowest setting it can get a little rough when you hit a bump in the road, and of course at higher settings the ride smooths out quite a bit. Plus, regarding spacers, you will get all kinda of opinions on that subject, but my Master MBZ mechanic says he has seen all kinds of wheel vibration issues with those coming into the shop, because due to expansion and contraction issues, if they move even slightly due to that, you will feel it in the car. I suppose it is worth trying though, then you could just take them off if needed.

Love those wheels Jan. I have the same 20" tire setup as you.
