Thericker you certainly know your stuff, and what you say is spot on, and
you are trying to help people make maybe the mistakes you made many
moons ago.
However some of us including me like the look of big 19's or 20 inch rims
with all there draw backs, judging by current trends all cars seem to be getting bigger diameter that is wheels. I saw a CLA on the forecourt with
20's on. Lastly I used to work in tyres a looong time ago when wheels were
getting bigger both in diameter and width, and many disappointed faces
when people fitted larger diameter wheels and put the same profile tyres
on, where's my power gone. So all this talk about power, I think the most
important thing is to keep the rolling radius the same as stock/standard
would be. Wheels and tyres are a huge subject and we could talk about
it forever, a good tyre shop should be able to sort out peoples needs, they
do in the UK, so the States must have them too.

have mounted short headers from Kleeman and also Xpipe , removed all cats. Trottle respons is like night and day.. so fast response, put the trottle and its like booom . would recomend to all that has this 55 engine to change.. do not remove resonator boxes , now is quiet enoght for a long drive. the moment y push trottle ,is sound like race car , total amazing.

I have and still run a promod.....thericker is right and wrong.....unsprung, reciprocating weight kills power at the ground...has little to do with tire width and unless your speaking a drag tire that grips and wrinkles w a super soft compound, and you aint got enough to stick....til that point youre just hearing your head roar.....I wouldn't run those goofy spacers, ever.....I'd set backspacing inside as far as I could go without tubs and reach em out to the fender.....you can gun drill the axles and buy the lightest wheel out there, buy a cf driveshaft, backcut the ring gear, etc....its reciprocating weight, not width that robs at the ground.....I don't have a wide body....I have just a lowly sl500 w a set of Gianelli wheels in 19 and 20 w 255/30 and 295/35 rear....CAUSE THEY LOOK GOOD....if your 'charged AMG aint fast enough, then buy a real race car.....I bought mine for fun and wimin....it works flawlessly.....PS, I routinely go over 250mph

Here's a good article about going 250mph:
http://www.e31.net/resistance.html
The general rule is it takes roughly twice the HP to go 250mph vs the HP necessary to go 200mph due to drag, downforce, etc. The Veyron is a million dollar car with phenomenal engineering geared towards ultra high speed and it requires 1,000HP to reach 250mph. Even the Aventador with 700+ HP tops out under 220mph (around 217 most tests).
An R230 SL would likely require 1200+ HP to reach 250mph.

How do you explain guys running 2-3+ mph higher Trap speeds & quicker/faster ET's in the 1/4 mile while using skinney's up front vs reg width tires & wheels? 110% the bigger width kills extra hp & slows rotational mass by creating drag as the more surface area you havve touching the ground/road requires more power to overcome. It's so blatantly obvious, you can see it w/out even racing it kills gas mileage using wider wheels & wider tires vs a normal stock setup.

France,, the wheel killer country
outside Nice France on castle.
This car create more attension then SLS , everywhere people with videocamera and take photos, even in trafic on highway i see many cars slow down to sit and enjoy view of this car , filming at same time..
but this wheels get banged up anyhow how i drive,, is hopless have so low rubber , need be close to stock profile to have any chance save wheels. so later i need go down to 19 inch , from the 20 inch maybe Thericker know what highest profile i can use on 19 inch .. 20 is good only for airport runaway .. my advice , stay away from too low profile .

Depends on what brand tires too, some have larger rounded profiles even though theyre listed as being the same size on side of tires. Try 19/35/265 up front & 19/30/325 or 335 rear if they make that size in the rears..Hope this helps..
