WOW 13 hours to change out an ABC pump

That is what the dealer is quoting. $4700 total

I remember doing an ABC pump swap that my warranty covered but I don't think it's anywhere close to just swapping the pump. I'm kinda curious now and wanna see what alldata says.

You sure it was just the ABC pump?

I looked up my Alldata account and saw there is 2 pumps 1 for the power steering and 1 for the suspension. I can't copy the diagram but if you put this part number in:

0034665301

You can pull up a diagram of the system. On number 75 and 80 shows the 2 pumps. Alldata says the same part number is used on both pumps, but Mercedes shows a different number but they both cost $2190 for each of the two pumps.

If the pump on the suspension side went out book time says 1.8 hours for labor, if its on the power steering side its 6.1 hours

But even now you can get these ABC pumps for much cheaper than $2190, but it procedure and part is good for all 04-11 r230s

Thanks. On my car the pump does both power steering and suspension. I'm sure the warranty company is going to ensure they do not charge for two pumps.

Managed to get the diagram up Alldata says #75 and #80 use the same part numbers, but Mercedes say it's different. As you can see there's 2 pumps 1 for power steering, and the other for suspension.

I'm still trying to figure out how it's still $4,700. You sure both pumps didn't go out? Cause by book time no way it's suppose to be 13 hours unless they are doing something else

Ripoff.

My Indy just replaced abc pump, all 4 accumulators, and removed and rebuilt front and rear valve blocks, rodeo and flushed system twice. Took them about 11 hours to do everything. Cost me 1200 in labor. Pump was 1200.

Is it just 2 parts of the same pump just in 1/2s? This diagram and these different part numbers are confusing, I look at some of the pumps for sale, some show both parts sold together and others just sell them separately

At least on my SL600. Had it done on mine, one pump, called a tandem pump, two reservoirs though..


It was a warranty item, can't recall the cost, but don't remember feeling shocked when they told me what it was. I do remember paying out of pocket to have the flush the ABC system at the same time.

After they replaced my ABC lines the pump could be heard.
They replaced the ABC pump for around a grand.

Ignore #10 and #75 on the diagram

That diagram is trying to show too much information on one picture. There are 3 different scenarios on that "power steering" pump picture.

The tandem pump is #80 in the lower left corner. It does BOTH the power steering and ABC suspension, and you will find an inlet and outlet for each. The pump has a single pulley that spins a common shaft pushing pressure out to both systems.

I don't have a time estimate for R/R. It would probably take me 13 hours as a hobby mechanic in my own garage, going very slowly. There are lots of videos and threads on this forum. My perspective is biased from researching my '03 S55, but the principle applies to SL and E classes and others.
