I'm stunned you had to stump up for a taxi and did not get a SL55 replacement whilst the car is being repaired.

I got this service when my 4 year old out of warranty S class with 75000 on the clock failed (as it did regulalrly!).

Amazing if this had happened when I had the SL55 I would have been livid.

Looks like I got good service with the old S class.

Some of this is probably down to your dealer - On one occasion when I managed to get to the dealer they advised me to call the assistance line and report the car broken down.

Didn't realise Clarkson had had 2 gearboxes - that stig drives em rough!

well, though i sympathize with the problems noted, after years with Porshes, steering rack leaks, ABS going out, even a blown exhaust manifold (I was only doing 140); or the BMW with metal fatigue on a dirveshaft, and a very arrogant attitude when real problems surfaced regarding water induction into an engine via a ponding (a design flaw I thought).. and then the water pump that blew on a Ferrari at about 130 MPH; well, loved them all (sort of), but these 'benz issues seem more like anloyances compared to the past... not that it is right or anything, but relatively liveable; though I concur about staying on top of them.

On my SL55; almost a year old, 5500 miles; I have had to reload software for the seat, replace a glovebox latch, and dealt with a brake squeal issue (probably not driving hard enough.. but don't know).. other than that it continues to be a 'driver's car' with no question about general reliability... agreed not to keep after the warranty, but to me that's the case with any modern complex car.

best to all!

My thoughts and prayers go out to your car blueSL. No matter what, the car is still part of your family!
