Found the best first mod for your SL55/65

Why chase after horsepower when you can utilize what you already have...? Seems inexpensive compared to a Kleemann/Renntech tune. Thoughts?

"Using the KLEEMANN Limited Slip Differential (LSD) gives an immediate result. Testing has shown that a Mercedes-Benz 55 AMG will drop as much as 0.3 second to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) with this modification alone!"

Idk about Kleemann but I have a Quaife LSD, after I did an ECU/TCU, full exhaust and intake, I couldn't keep power to the ground anymore. Quaife LSD made a huge difference, however if I'm not mistaken a Kleemann LSD is only 60% locking diff, while Quaife is a full locking diff, but a Quaife LSD will cost more, on a SL65 It was about 1400-1500

Factory LSD is electronic not mechanical. The brake is applied on the wheel that is loosing traction. Swaping to a Quaife LSD was well worth it. You can sell your old LSD for about 500 bucks to recoupe some money back.

I thought the brake "LSD" came on most Benzes, but a real LSD in the diff came on the 65's.

If its a real diff then the locking % has to be really low even if Kleemann offers a 60% which is prob better then the SL65. Only SL65 got that rear diff, CL and S65 have open diffs. Point is if you plan on doing anything beyond an ECU tune, upgraded diff should be considered.

65 must have full locking. Mine is stock I believe and both tires spin same. Makes it fun in corners.

I highly doubt its fully locking, other wise wavetrac, quaife, renntech would even bother offering the 100% locking lsd upgrade and kleemanns 60% locking lsd. The lsd is fine for ecu/tcu tunes alone, but having a full exhaust and intakes and driving with the stock lsd was terrible. TC was lighting up till 70-80 mph fish tailing with the gears moving thru 1-3 to compansate the power.

After I swaped to a quaife LSD the car hooked alot better, much easier to handle in the curves and didn't fish tail as bad as the stock LSD.

I suppose mine could be aftermarket. I could see others offering an aftermarket product because they feel theirs is superior which they may be. I don't seem to have the hookup problems you have though.

That I use to have lol. If you managed to get that LSD from Renntech as part of the sale of your car at the time you banked out 4-5 grand.

As for hooking up, intakes and downpipes/exhaust adds alot more power to the base ecu. Which is why im glad I did the LSD upgrade

My car is a Driving Emotions car. A lot of the cars they sell go there for upgrades. I know for sure it has tune, full exhaust, V3 module. I need to get a list from them. I was told my car was 195k from Mercedes and out the door at Driving Emotions for around 260k with taxes and options.

You need that list because I doubt you could rack up $50K in mods, not much out there for the 65s.

I wouldnt be surpised if they were all renntech mods, renntech has the highest prices for parts, 3k for an ic pump set up, 4k for an lsd, 2k just for sport mufflers, 2k for an ecu tune. As you can see this list is adding up quick. Renntech is known for biggest price gouging for MB mods in the market other than Brabus since one of the founders of AMG went off to start Renntech after AMG was sold to MB. I mean look at the CF wing they selling for an SLS 9k

When my company tunes 55/65 cars, many of our people either opt for us to put the Quaife LSD in, or they come back for it.

The problem with selling an LSD is its just not 'pretty' and something you can see. I end up selling the 'sizzle'. But once they experience what it does, the smile gets wide!

If you did a lot of the stuff Renntech offers you could hit well over $60K

but the taxes too the 195K from mercedes to nearly $260K.

Tax at 10% = $20K
Luxury tax = $40K (this is a little high as I used the calculator for this year.)

Luxury tax calculation:

Vehicle Price: $195,000.00 Luxury Car Tax Rate: 33.00% LCT Payable: $39,934.80 Vehicle Price (including LCT): $234,934.80 Does this car meet the LCT fuel-efficient-car criteria? No
