Had the front brakes done - SL65

$2600 smackers. Question - I have read you can do this yourself yet the indie that did it said you really shouldn't unless you have star to shut down the braking system or you can get your fingers crushed. Not heard that before.

It is true, you can loose you fingers.

You can also disconnect the batteries or pull the multi-connector on the SBS unit.

This is true for all models with SBS as it it will do a systems check if it is initialized by something like the door opening, unlocking or if you have keyless-go, the key getting too close.

I've read numerous threads of amg guys replacing pads themselves without any mention of star tool .... They say amg makes it easy to replace the brake pads

Oh yes, it is not hard to do at all as long as you are aware of how SBS works and how to handle it. I changed the rotors and pads on my E without a Star tool.

Honda Metropolitan
Very easy to do indeed. Unplug SBC connector from the unit, and wrench away. I would recommend purchasing a Motive speed bleed in order to bleed the system. Plug connector back into SBC and voila.
