Steering Wheel Shift Buttons
Hi,
I'll make this short as possible. My buttons don't work in M as the should. Took car to dealer and $177.00 later they said I need a new steering wheel, at a cost of $2700.00. I can't understand how this is possible, since all I can see underneath the air bag is support for plugs, switches and pass through for various wires/switches. If someone can add more light to what part the steering wheel plays, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks
Doug

I'd talk to Chris and get the buttons changed out for paddles. I have the same car as you and I can't tell you what a difference the paddles make, they are brilliant. PM me if you need his email.

Thanks for the replys. I have been talking to Chris (latemodel21) and he has been helping me chase this problem down. I pulled the center console, to get to the shift mechanism, so I could check the wiring. The voltage was all correct when checked on pin 4 when static (5.15), pressing up button (12.12) and pressing down button (1.14). I think this proves there is nothing wrong with my steering wheel and the buttons are doing their part. Chris seems to think there is a way using STAR (which I have) to turn the button function on or off. He is searching for this on his system and going to get back to me. In the mean time, it can't hurt to get other STAR users involved, hoping they can share their knowledge and shed some light on my problem. Almost forgot, Mercedes offered to fix it for around 100K. Thanks
