2003 SL55 R230 Can anyone help with shifter adjustments?
I managed to replace the plastic part inside the shifter that caused it to stick in park but now my car is shifting at high RPM's. There were several electrical parts I had to remove to get inside the shifter so my best guess is that one or more of those items need to be adjusted. Any help is appreciated... I have a 2003 SL55 with 67,000 on the clock.

This is just a few things I would check.
Verify the electrical wires are all hooked up back to the shifter.
Does the car shift using the stick right or left? If not, it is probably a connection.
Do a trans reset procedure to start the trans from square 1.
Let us know what you find.

Searching works great, but can take a while.
Here's one I found.
Trans ECU Reset:
This is the procedure to reset transmission adaptations…
1. With the car otherwise off and the doors closed, turn the Key to the "on" position (the position right before you start your engine).
2. Press and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor for ten seconds.
3. Turn Key to "off" position BUT DON'T remove the key.
4. Slowly release pressure on the accelerator pedal until you can take your foot completely off of it.
5. Wait a few minutes (at least two) and remove the key. Open and close the driver's door and then wait for the dash to go to sleep.
That completes the resetting process (it just resets the shift/throttle positions to factory default, it won't hurt anything). Now just drive normally and the ECU will learn new adaptations.

kbob - no luck on resetting the trans... either it didn't work or the problem is elsewhere... Tried it 3 times with no success. I will poke around the threads for a similiar issue and maybe get lucky... I appreciate the assistance and will let you know how I make out. If anything else comes to mind that you think might help me any info is appreciated...

ive tried various trans resets before. none of the procedures listed on the forum seem to work for the sl55. the only way i have gotten it successfully reset was if the dealer reset it with star or 2) Unhook both batteries and let the car sit a few hours. When you hook the batteries back up everything will have to be reset doors, windows etc. but the transmission will be reset.
If anyone knows of a definitive reset for the sl55 i would love to hear it.
