SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: custom tailliight lens

custom tailliight lens
hi guys, interested to know if the r230 sl taillight lens are a red plastic, or a clear plastic painted red on the inside. I do tons of headlight and taillight modifications, and am rather bored with the current sl tails, and having the itch to do something to them. If they are indeed red, I will have to make a clear uv acylic lens, if clear, id just need to strip the red/smoke. Any insight on this would be great, thanks guys!

Are you working on a 2003-2006 set? My 03 looks to have red plastic with segmented lens section for reverse/turn. They also use divided/fluted lenses for dispersion. The newer 07+ r230 tails use smooth plastic lenses and are completely clear in the turn and reverse section. Amg versions are smoked/tinted. The red plastic sections look clear when viewing from a sharp angle which would suggest an interior coating, but I cannot confirm. I would use the 07+ version for your project as they look sharper to start with.
