Just got an MB one for the SL63. The parts guy indicated the one received was a next gen, I know ho-hum. But the little instruction sheet indicated your friendly dealer could install a 12V. Cig. Lighter connection in the trunk to avoid the clips. Anyone familiar with this? , Oh, either way does one trickle charge with the trunk lid open, closed, or unlatched resting on the cord. I rest the trunk on the cord.

I use this magnetic connector on my vette..should be a way to adapt..I can simply drive away and it just pulls off

I do the same and for six or seven months. The little SL starts after its long slumber no different than having sat for only a few hours. The tires need to work out the minor flat spots, but other than that, no issues all winter long.
