2005 SL55 AMG rattle-no it's not the baffle, HELP!!

I have owned the SL (43k mi) for about 1 year. The first 6 months the car was in FL., smooth roads, I only thought I heard a rattle. Since May the car has been in Gloucester, Ma. rough roads, and big time rattle. The rattle I believe is coming from the area in front of the rear right tire. To date I have removed the interior panels and cubby under and around the right rear window. I unfastened the modules, etc in that area down to the sheet metal nothing is loose. I probably have 4-6 hours into chasing the rattle. Next move was to bring the car to the MB dealer to get it up on a lift. They ruled out the gas tank baffle, and also agree on same area as I do, now a total of 8 more MB hours of tinkering, 5 road tests, the last one with the shop foreman. He said it was the strut---$2300 with no guarantee to remove the rattle. I didn't bite. I contacted Arnott Tech Support, they remanufacture MB struts, they were great, there answer was, there is nothing in the strut that will rattle, do not replace the strut. When the car was on the lift with the well liner out I saw a black container in front of the tire maybe 10" high 5" wide. What is it and is there anything in it that could rattle. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Please, I need help!!1

That is your accumulator. From my understanding there shouldnt be anything in there that could rattle, but i wouldnt 100% rule it out.

2011 SL63 AMG, 2018 C300 4Matic, 2011 E350 4Matic;
I recently tracked down a similar rattle. Understand the you removed the interior panels.
My rattle turned out to be the fasteners securing the trunk liner. The liner appeared to be secured in place. However, the hard plastic press-in type fasteners at the lower corners (as the trunk lid is viewed when open) were not fully seated in the receiving holes of the trunk lid sheet metal, allowing the hard plastic fastener fixtures that are integral to the liner to contact the sheet metal. Removed the failed fasteners and secured the liner with industrial strength Velcro.

I have this same issue in my 2003. interesting that is goes away or is greatly reduced when the top is open. Will try chasing the loose fasteners. Thanks
