Drag racing fun

Took the SL65 to the 1/8th mile strip again tonight. My third time ever at a drag strip.

I'm still not very good, with mediocre reaction times and 60ft, but having fun. Surprising a lot of people. Won more than I lost tonight and getting some respect. Beat bunch of newer Mustang GTs.

My best, so far is 8.0723 at 88.2 on street tires (new, so not broken in at all). What are other people doing?

Pretty clear this is a better 1/4 mile car. Regardless of my launch, I reel in just about everyone, including the dedicated drag cars. On a longer strip, I'd catch more.

Going to put a set of near slick competition tires on it next. Can't get drag radials in the size I need. Trying the Goodrich R1.

Suggestions welcome.

Do a little more research about what others have used for drag radials on the SLs. An 18" rim is the minimum you can fit over the rear brakes on the 65s. I know I, along with many others, have used 265/40/18 Mickey Thompsons with great results. Despite stock tire width there is no need to go so wide, maintaining similar height is more important in matching wheel speed. As long as there is decent track prep, a good burnout will allow you to launch with little to no wheel spin.

Very nice. I suspect I'd do better in the 1/4.

Yes you will do better with drag radials, no you will not do better than the SL55 above, considering 1/8th mile MPH of both cars.

I guessed that. I have an E55. I knew sub-11 wasn't stock
