Which 55k performance parts interchange through all bodies ?

Hi guys.

I want to start modding my 06 SL55. Not trying to break the bank with the build but there is soo much information (lots very old at that) to sift through. I want to paint a clear picture on the best parts to put on my car and what I really should stay away from. I would like to do a full bolt on setup with tune and exhaust.

E55 Parts seem to be the most common for sale in the classifieds. What can I use from them ? The most expensive thing it looks like to purchase is exhaust. I'd like to find a good used set of headers, what should I look for ?

Also, who is the most recommended tuner for these cars as of 2016 ?

Any other info you guys can pour on me would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

just about everything (pulley, TB, injectors, etc.) will work between an E55 and SL55.

The one thing that WONT is exhaust. Many headers are the same between an e55 and SL55, but the downpipes that connect them to the exhaust are different as the SL55 has a different exhaust system/setup.

Not trying to break the bank and getting the best parts are often two different things. A perfect example is headers. From Kleemann you're looking at about $700 for a set of midlength headers, but if you want the BEST you go with MBH and pay about $2600.

So, E55 long tube headers will fit a SL55, but not the rest of the exhaust ?

no, longtubes are not interchangeable. The midlength Kleemann's are the same for an E55 and SL55 (the headers themselves), BUT the downpipes that connect the Kleemann's to the exhaust system are NOT the same.

The rest of the exhaust will NOT fit as a bolt in. The SL55 is a shorter wheelbase car with a totally different setup.

FWIW, I just reached out to eurocharged (who i believe their headers to be the exact same as the kleemanns) and they stated that they do NOT have the correct downpipes to connect their headers to an SL55 like Kleemann does.
