Advice wanted on brakes! PLEASE HELP SL55 CBRAKES
Good afternoon everyone.
I recently learned I will be needing new brake pads and rotors very soon.
I have to make a road trip from my college North Carolina back to New York (about 8 hours) and with new brakes ive been shopping around and I came across CBRAKES on ebay They are based on of CA. I havent heard anything about them and was hoping someone has used them and can tell me if they are any good. They seem a bit cheap. 380 for all 4 rotors and all pads.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/311547663339
I'm in college so whatever is the best best at the lowest cost would be amazing
Thank you so much for your help.

I don't know anything about these "C" brakes, but at that price, I doubt they hold up to OEM standards. I would search this site and find an OEM brake part supplier that is reputable who can tell/knows what exact part you need. There are different brakes on different SL55's and a VIN check with the supplier is a good idea to make sure you are getting the right part - OEM or otherwise. Not saying that these Cbrakes won't work or are not of good quality (I don't know), but there are suppliers that will sell you the right OEM quality parts (there is even a company that offers a lifetime warranty on all their parts) and you'll know that you will get the right part for your car and won't have to waste your time with the wrong part.
PM me to inquire about my first hand experience.

I bought factory Mercedes rotors for my 2005 SL55 through mymercedesparts .com (Mercedes dealership in South Atlanta) for around $140/each fronts and $100/each rear. This was a few years ago.
You could also check Pelicanparts.com an excellent parts source out of El Segundo (LA) California or, Autohausaz.com another excellent source for OEM parts.
I purchased Akebono pads through RockAuto for my SL55. The OEM pads were absolutely terrible with brake dust. The rims were always filthy and very difficult to clean. The Akebono pads stop every bit as well as the original pads for less money and absolutely no dust.

I'm looking for reasonable street braking with no noise and less (than OEM) dust.

Really?
Vtvette,
You bought OEM disc rotors for an SL55 from a dealer for $140 each? Hard to believe. The front discs on my 2008 SL55 are 2 piece compound, cross drilled and slotted and go for over $1200 each from the dealer. They are sourced from Brembo and you can get the exact same Brembo rotor from various sources for around $500 each. But $140 from a dealer sounds too good to be true.

My 2011 S63 does not have Akebonos available so through the advice giving here I bought:
and love them! One quarter the price and eighty five percent less dust.
I used Centric rotors on my S55 and use them on my race as well. Good stuff and cheap too!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Try to get Akebono ceramic brake pads. I highly recommend them if you don't like washing your wheels of nasty brake dust every day. I have the huge P30 optional brakes on my SL and I have not noticed any negative braking effects with the pads.
This is after of a week of daily commuting.

That being said.. There is a difference between the Akebonos and the Centrics as far as dust. I think the Akebonos have a little lighter color dust but the output is about the same. Both put out far less dust than the factory pads!
