SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Key update
different shape.
If you order a new key from the dealer, they automatically come
as the new chrome style, but will set you back ~$250/key.
We have two Mercedes dealerships here in Vegas. Both are owned by the same franchise so, surprise surprise prices are the same between both dealerships.
I was quoted $600 for a key for my 2005 SL55. They also said "it's possible" additional programming *may* be needed when the key arrives for a few hundred more. They won't know until the key arrives

Since you have to order and pick up the key in person and the next closest Mercedes dealers are in L.A. 4 hours away, they know they got you.
I had my S430 in a shop and the battery died with the key in the ignition. Key was gone, but lucky I had a spare that I ordered a few years back. Local Dealer was $250, he said he could get it for ~$180. I filled out some paperwork that MB requires. I think he had to have some kind of certification for doing this too.
Nor Cal is correct though, indy's can order keys for cars they are
servicing, as long as registered owner forwards proof of ownership
to dealer. If you know a good indy who will pass along his discount
to you, it may be a good alternative.
