It'd be too risky too make it look too familair to the R171.
The R230 (In USA) came out a sa 2003 model, two years later giving it a new nose doesn't bode well for all the repeat customers as our cars would depreciate by a whole lot. It is my understanding that SL's keep their body for at least 5 or even 7 years.
