A/C not as frosty...

I don't have any hard #s but my 2004 SL55 a/c was cool but not cold when I bought it six months ago. I added some "freon" and it got downright frosty.
This week it was cold but not frosty (again I don't have any measurements, just relative feel) so I assumed I needed another hit of freon but it would not take any.
1. Does anyone have the optimal temperature F or C at the vent exit for the system when its optimal?
2. Is there any simple weaknesses I can check (fuse for condenser fan, etc...) that I can check?
Thanks,
Tom

From what I have read, a differential of 45 to 50 F is a good rule of thumb for a car a/c system. You appear to have a differential of about 48. When was the last time you changed air cabin filters? Also, on really hot, high humid (dew point) days, you might try getting the cabin a bit cool then switch the a/c to recirc. If your differential is 45 and the cabin air return temp is 80 you are now discharging 35 degree air.

Was thinking about you today. I think the WI air national guard is maybe doing some ACM not too far from where I live in the middle of nowhere WI. I can see some pretty aggressive looking turning vapor trails. Every once in a while, we get a pretty good boom. Guessing the are getting supersonic at altitude.

That is cool! ACM (air combat maneuvering-dogfighting). There are very few places (special ranges usually in the desert) you can legally go supersonic over land so they may be in a range or getting in trouble. :-)

I had a blast...and got in a lot of trouble, hence I got off active duty after ~11 years and went Reserves.
