improvement in belt wrap kit
I have Shardul's belt wrap kit on my SL55 with a 77mm S/C pulley. I was seeing black dust around the pulley so figured I was losing boost to slippage. I modified the engine block plate by moving the idler pulley over and up. This had an immediate seat of the pants improvement in pull. The idler pulley had to be shimmed out very slightly to clear the clutch fasteners on the driven pulley.
In addition I used a belt which with full extension of the tensioner, was very hard to get on. This mean't increased spring tension when released. When I first asked Shardul for a belt for the 77mm pulley he sent one which was very easy to install and was the same belt he had sent with the belt wrap kit when I had an 83mm pulley. After I advised Shardul of this he immediately sent the shorter belt without question and at his expense. Top service points to Shardul. After I moved the pulley this new belt was very hard to install however it resulted in hardly any take-up when the tensioner was released.
I don't know why the image was inverted after attaching.

Just went for another run this morning and it certainly has more grunt now. I will post V-box times for 100-160kph as soon as I retrieve the V-box from my E55 which is in the shop. Stock time for both cars was 4.8 sec. Before fixing the belt slip the SL55 did 3.9sec. That is the sort of time low eleven second cars do, such as the Ferrari 599. I can't wait to see the improved result.
SL55 mods are a I/C water tank where the small battery was located and which is now in the boot. 77mm clutched pulley, shorty headers, larger TB and injectors, Pierberg 50 pump, extra heat exchanger, no cats, stock cans, K&Ns and tuned by Eurocharged (great service from Jerry and Philip). Also have a Quaife LSD installed, hugely improved traction.
