Pulley guys....77mm or 83mm pulley (SL55)
Soon I plan a pulley upgrade to increase power. I am not looking to track or drag race the car. I would just like to have enough power to be certain that I can ward off the pesky Corvettes, Camaros, and Mustangs. I drive pretty mellow as more times than not, my wife is with. I will have an occasional romp from 30-100, but for the most part I would say I drive like a grandma.
I know that I want a clutched SC pulley and a tune. I'm completely on the fence and can't decide. I know that the 77mm will make more power, but at the expense of more heat, and a greater potential for problems.
Guess I'm looking for input for guys that are running the 77mm pulley. I know it will make great power, but I'm not trying to damage my engine or anything like that. Have you had any maintenance issues related with running the 77mm pulley? Also, you 83mm guys..are you happy with the 83mm or do you wish you would have gone with the 77mm pulley?
Oh BTW, my car is a 2007 SL55, so it does already have the larger injectors. The car is bone stock, 35,000 miles and the engine is healthy.
Thanks!

I have a 2007 SL55 with the 77mm SC pulley and additional heat exchanger. No maintenance issues.
I do not know anything about the 83mm SC pulley.
The 2007 SL55 makes good power stock, the difference with or without a 77mm pulley change is not as dramatic as one would think - IMHO.
Here are some before (stock) and after (77 mm pulley) dyno results on my car.
The "tuned" results are a safe tune installed by Eurocharged on a Dyno Day, as I did get 504 RWHP on a different dyno run that morning.
500 RWHP is about the limit, unless you "open the box" to more modifications.

do a search for the 180mm crank pulley as it is the equivalent to a 77mm supercharger pulley.
Here's a link showing comparisons of the 2
http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/amg-l...dyno-test.html
you can see that after 5,500 rpm how the 77mm starts falling flat on its face b/c with everything else stock it can't get enough air in or out efficiently. An 82mm TB and longtube headers would make the upper end on the 77 much better.

I put a 83mm pulley on my E55 with only a tune from Jerry and it is a huge improvement. On my V-box timer for 100-160kph it went from 5.2 sec down to 4.5 sec. The seat of the pants improvement was huge (ignoring heat soak). That 4.5sec matches what my cammed 427 ute does. The ute does mid 11's at 120mph.
