Request of the R230 crowd re Superchargers
Ladies and Gents:
Do any of you SL55 experts know the OE supplier of the Supercharger used in 2003-2005 SL55?
I share the same component with you in my '03 S55, but the W220-S55 sub-forum is very quiet and I suspect is filled with lots of non -original owners now. You guys seem to be much better informed.
I'm considering s rebuild and thought I could look at absolutely correct bearings and seals if I knew the OE supplier. I can't tease out of the forums whether it was a Japanese supplier or good old AMG who designed the castings/screws/bearings, etc. I am familiar with the NACHI bearing they used at the drive pulley/clutch.
Any guidance would be appreciated. I have STFA for about 2 hours.

Merc sees the supercharger as a single replacement unit and offers nothing separately. You cannot get any of the original gaskets or bearings anywhere for that supercharger, I have tried. The only gaskets available is the one for the rear snout and the one connecting the supercharger to the intercooler. all the rest are reusable, but if you damage or lose one you are screwed. The bearings are a weird special design and the original grease for them is not even available.
Get into contact with Ben Rawcliffe on facebook. He has had bearing replacement kits made for the rears on the supercharger & is working on fronts. I think the price is somewhere between 150-200. If you don't replace the rear bearings (which are epoxied in) then you will need to take brake parts cleaners and get all the old grease out and repack it to 40% a believe with new grease. This is what I did on mine as the replacement kits were not available then and at 85k the bearings had virtually no grease left in them. I used rheotemp 500 as that grease is used in eaton superchargers (again I contacted everyone the original bearing manufacturer, etc. and you can NOT buy the factory grease).
If you are pulling off the supercharger to do this service you may as well upgrade to an 82mm tb as changing the snout requires supercharger removal. Also replace all gaskets (intake, supercharger to intercooler, bypass tb, surge tank, etc.) when you do it even though most are reusable. I'd also suggest replacing the fuel dampener and upgrading to 550 injectors (I've had 2 factory injectors fail in 2 different m113k cars that almost blew both motors and aftermarket 550s cost less for 8 than 1 merc does) since you will have to take the fuel rail off to get the supercharger off.
also a good time to replace coolant (which is 15yr/150k service life) since you will have to drain the coolant to get the supercharger off as well.
