AMG after Hans-Werner Aufrecht
I was wondering if the AMG vehicles that came before 2005 are in any way going to be recognized or be special due to the fact that Hans-Werner Aufrecht sold the company (shares) to Daimler-Chrysler in January of 2005. I know some folks believe that pre 2012 Shelby vehicles are more sought after than the ones produced after his death. I thought this might be an interesting topic of conversation.

amg was bought by mercedes in the early 90s, that was the end of any prestige. Its not like when ferrari died. Nothing has ever gone up unless you find a 60s or 70s car they did the work on their selves

I found during my research that Daimler-Chrysler bought AMG's majority shares in the late 90's, 1999 to be exact but it wasn't until 2005 that Hans-Werner Aufrecht sold his remaining shares and thus the title of this thread "AMG after Hans-Werner Aufrecht".

I think you need to focus more on the volume of cars that were produced. For example just saw an SL73 AMG for sale its was listed over 200k but if I remember right less than 100 exist over all.
If I had to guess which modern AMG might hold value, Maybe the R63? I think production count overall is about 100 and I have yet to see an R63 in person and I dont think MB will be making R classes any time soon lol.

IMO, the only old AMG's that will hold their value will be some of the rare ones like the 190E 2.3 II or whatever it was called. I don't think ownership will have much to do with it honestly.

even if its rare, these newer cars arent special unless they get 20-30+ years old. Maybe a black series will hold some value rather than lose (in relation to normal models)
Ive seen a couple r63 but they are few and far between. The problem is they have the old 6.3 with the bolt and lifter problems

The SLS's & Black, CLK Black, and SL65 Black seem to be holding well but not sure how each will play long term. The rest of the modern AMG's are not doing so hot.
The older AMG's just don't do it for me from a styling or performance perspective. Some still like the older widebody SEC's and the old Hammer''s but I'm not a huge fan of the handling characteristics of the older cars.
